Braces
Walking Boot
A walking boot is a device to supports the foot and ankle. Often times it is prescribed to protect the ankle to allow quicker weight-bearing. The boot allows you to work on range of motion and allows you to shower.
You must wear your boot until otherwise instructed by your doctor. You must sleep in your boot until cleared by your doctor. Sleeping in the boot prevents the ankle from developing an equinus contracture.
If you need to purchase a boot they can be found online ranging between $40-100
Hinged Knee Brace
A hinged knee brace is often used when you have a knee injury or broken bone around the knee. It allows for range of motion if cleared by your doctor but allows for some protection and stability.
You must sleep in the brace and it should be kept locked in extension at night until cleared by your doctor. This prevents a flexion contracture and improves your recovery once you start putting weight on your leg. Wear your brace at all times unless otherwise told by your surgeon.
Most times a prescription is provided or the brace is fitted in the hospital. If a brace is needed it can be purchased online.
Knee Sleeve
Sometimes a brace is needed for a minor knee injury, arthritis, or support after previous surgery. A knee sleeve provides an inexpensive option and can be purchased at a local drug store or online.
Removable Wrist Brace
A wrist brace is used to protect an injury or fracture of the wrist. It provides more stability during activities, specifically lifting and putting weight through your arm to use a walker or crutches. The brace can be removed to shower and work on range of motion of the wrist. Most of the time they can be fitted in clinic or a prescription will be written for them. They can also be purchased online.
